Full itinerary

  1. Start of the tour: Praça do Vidigal

At the scheduled time, your guide will be waiting for you at Praça do Vidigal. After check-in, your experience begins with a moto-taxi ride to the upper part of Vidigal.

  2. Stop 1: Olympic Village

    10 min*

A very important sports and cultural hub for Vidigal, with courts, leisure areas and activities for all ages. It is also where residents gather for celebrations such as Children's Day, June festivals and Christmas. Start by taking photos with the Village's famous graffiti.

  3. Stop 2: Rua dos Tanques

    5 min*

A path to the Arvrão that is a major historical landmark of Vidigal: residents used to walk up here to wash clothes at public taps when there was no running water in every home, and came back down carrying the basins on their heads.

  4. Stop 3: Arvrão

    30 min*

At the top of Vidigal, the Arvrão is the community's best-known spot, famous for its incredible view of the favela and the ocean. The name comes from the big trees there. The area now has bars and restaurants and has become a hub for food and parties. A great spot for photos, drinks and snacks.

  5. Stop 4: Descida 25

    5 min*

One of Vidigal's best-known shortcuts, where you first see the urban organization built by the residents themselves. Here you will find Escola do Vidigal, created by artist Vik Muniz as an educational lab combining art, technology and literacy, and Rádio Vidigal, a community radio station running since the 1980s.

  6. Stop 5: Visual dos Crias

    10 min*

An open space with a panoramic view of Leblon and Ipanema beaches, Christ the Redeemer, Dois Irmãos Hill and the favela itself. Visual dos Crias celebrates the moto-taxi drivers and local culture, with graffiti, themed drinks, barbecue skewers and restrooms for visitors. Aerial drone footage is available.

  7. Stop 6: Beco das Artes

    5 min*

Many works by local and guest graffiti artists on the walls of Vidigal's houses. A great moment for photos and to see how the favela resists through art and color.

  8. Stop 7: Chapel of São Francisco de Assis

    5 min*

Affectionately known as the "Pope's Chapel", it is a symbol of faith, identity and community. Built by residents in a joint effort and blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1980, when he said: "I came here not out of curiosity, but because I love you and wish you well".

  9. End of the tour: Praça do Vidigal

The tour ends at Praça do Vidigal, where your local guide checks you out safely.
